Day 2 of the Corona Saquarema Pro was an emotional roller coaster. Already qualified surfers Rio Waida and Leonardo Fioravanti display next-level confidence. Willian Cardoso fought back tears to surf another day of Challenger action. Sophia Medina, sister to Gabriel Medina, showed up and took her first heat win on the challenger. Heavy wipeouts, crucial jet ski rescues plus crazy priority interferences capped off a wild day at Itauna.
Only two events remain in the battle for Championship Tour qualification. With three surfers already locking up their place on the 2023 tour, seven men’s and five women’s spots are still up for grabs when the best up-and-coming surfers head to Brazil.
